What is a Hazard?
"Hazard means an activity, arrangement, circumstance, event, occurrence, phenomenon, process, situation, or substance (whether arising or caused within or outside a place of work) that is an actual or potential cause or source of harm. In effect, a hazard can be interpreted as anything that can cause harm in terms of human injury or ill health, damage to property, damage to the environment or a combination of all these." - The University of Waikato.

Mandatory sign: The mandatory sign states something that has to be done. The sign is a circular shape, with a blue background with a white symbol in the centre signaling what has to be done. All of these actions need to be taken into consideration for your own safety. Prohibitive sign: The prohibitive sign signals where you can't go or something you can't do. You can find these signs in an array of different place eg petrol station. The sign is a circular shape with a red outline with a cross in the centre, the background colour is white with a black symbol in the centre signaling which action cannot be done in that certain area or work site. Hazard sign: Hazard signs signal a hazard. These signs show what hazard there is nearby. These signs will prevent any injury or illness. The sign is shaped like a triangle, it has a yellow background with a black outline, there is a black sometimes outlined symbol signaling what the hazard is. Keep an eye out for hazard signs, they could save your life! Here is my own safety sign Prohibitive sign: Don’t enter the room if an adult isn’t present. If a dangerous machine is on, you may get hurt. If something gets broken and the teacher finds out that you were in the classroom while they weren’t, you may be blamed for the damage done to the machine. This sign will stop the problem of people getting hurt because they entered the room unattended by an adult. I chose to do this sign because I think this is an important rule. |
