My picture with words

Dandy, Debonair , dazzling,
Swiftly, Peacefully, leisurely,
As striking as diamond in the rough,
                                     Majestically,
                                   Gracious.

The dragons apprentice book review

The dragons apprentice is a interesting book about a 12 year old boy named Toby and a dragon named Klel. Klel and Toby live in a castle. Klel is kept prisoner by King Herat because of Klels amazing scales which can heal almost anything.  Toby tries his best to free Klel, and gets help from new friends named Kyhlene and Sanelle. They run into lots of problems, including a horrid Prince Blaise. In my opinion the book had a fast paced storyline, and it is very interesting, but I believe that it could still be improved. One of the things that I think would've made the story better is that the author could have added a death to the story or even a magical kiss. Even though it could still be improved, it was a great book. If you like fantasy books I recommend reading this. I would rate it a 4 out of 5.

My letter to Steve Anderson

This is a letter to Steve Anderson, the CEO of foodstuffs. I sent him this letter to persuade him to stop selling products with microbeads in them.

Dear Mr Anderson,
Hello I am Nadia , a year 7 student at Hornby High School. Recently our class have been doing a study regarding sustainability, I am focusing on water quality in New Zealand. What I am most concerned about is the use of microbeads in New Zealand.  In case you didn’t know, microbeads are tiny plastic balls that toiletry companies use in their toothpastes, facial scrubs, soaps, exfoliating creams/scrubs etc. But these companies disguise microbeads as POLYETHYLENE. Microbeads are very bad for the environment because they get into our waterways around the globe.

Microbeads enter our environment by getting washed down our drains. Microbeads are so small that they cannot be filtered in sewage systems, therefore they flow into our ocean, lakes, rivers and waterways, where they float and absorb toxins. Then sadly marine life mistake them for fish eggs and eat them. This makes them even more dangerous than a discarded plastic bottle. This means that we eat fish that eat microbeads. Scientists fear that chemicals in microbeads and also chemicals which attach themselves to plastic in the natural environment could cause poisoning and genetic disruption in marine life, and potentially in humans if eaten in high quantities.
It has come to my attention that Pak n save and New worlds around the country sell products that have polyethylene in them. Including… Clean and clear, Clearasil, Aveeno, Neutrogena and Olay. There are plenty of other brands that do not use microbeads that you can sell in your stores including… St Ives, Witch, Burt's bees, Swisse and many more. I urge you to help protect the environment and stop selling products from brands that use microbeads. Because these beads are killing our environment, and they could potentially kill us. So please, join me and stop these microbeads. Thank you for your cooperation. I would like to hear back from you regarding your stance on the matter.
Sincerely,

Nadia

I think I exceeded LO3 because I explained how microbeads are ruining our planet. I also stated which companies use microbeads and which don't.

Street art poster

(1. What is the learning outcome?  L.O The role of the artist, is disrupting what is accepted.
(2. What learning process have I been using? I have been using google drawing.
(3.  What evidence have you provided? I included a PDF of my work. I have included how street art is unique and different than graffiti.
(4. What worked, what was hard and what would I change? I think my layout looks pretty good, and I think my title tied in with the theme of street art. It was hard to choose appropriate pictures, and it was hard to find relevant information. I would change my information, I would've written more information.

My micro beads artical

I think I achieved LO 1 because I defined sustainability. I also explained how micro beads are a risk to fishes and people.
I think I achieved LO 2 because I explained the impact micro beads has on people and marine life. I also explained what we can use instead of micro beads.

What is sustainability?
I think sustainability means using non- reusable and usable resources for different reasons but not abusing the environment.

Q.1 How do micro beads get into  our waterways?

Micro beads enter our environment by getting washed down our drains. Micro beads are so small that they cannot be filtered in sewage systems, therefore they flow into our ocean, lakes, rivers and waterways where they float and absorb toxins. Then sadly marine life mistake them for fish eggs and eat them. This makes them even more dangerous than a discarded plastic bottle.

Q.2 How are micro beads used?

Micro beads are used in toothpaste, facial scrubs, soaps, exfoliating creams/ scrubs  etc.  Facial scrub  company Clean and clear claim that they use “Micro Scrubbing beads” to break down trapped oil, dirt and dead skin, Hip hop skin care also use micro beads in their products. But instead they disguise micro beads as polyethylene and polypropylene as do many other toiletry companies.

Q.3 What can we use instead of micro beads?
Light exfoliation : finely ground up oats or you could use baking soda. If you want mild exfoliation you could use, ground up almonds or walnuts help with removing blackheads on your face, jojoba beans are a safer way to go if you have a nut allergy, many people get microbeads and jojoba beans confused but they are not the same, jojoba beans are a natural exfoliant made from jojoba oil which is biodegradable and renewable. Lastly for strong exfoliation use salts, sugars, apricot shells and coffee grinds.

Link to Q.2 I actually searched some facial scrubs that I know of and looked at the ingredients and directions etc. I was looking for polyethylene and polypropylene. Clean and clear and Hip hop skin care were the one that I found had micro beads. Clean and clear, Hip hop skin care
