Filtering dirty water

In science we had to come up with a way to filter water with only a limited equipment. We were also in a group of four, my group was Molly, Ryan, Kiera and I. We put a cloth in the first funnel and then filter paper in the next two. All of this then pours the water into the conical flask at the bottom. the only problem is that the mud just kind of sits at the top  and it  gets clogged with mud. Our water was a bit short from clear but it was fine I guess. I wouldn't drink it though. By the way, it was Ryans idea to put the funnels on that angle, not mine.
